Next-Generation Kindergartens and Schools

The echo in classrooms and daycare rooms, low audibility, and polluted air are issues addressed by the specially designed panel: Knauf Cleaneo® Akustik. At the beginning of the 21st century, the R&D team at Knauf Germany developed the perforated Knauf Cleaneo® Akustik panel – a modification of the existing plasterboard panel aimed at meeting the needs and requirements of users, specifically:

  • Absorption of disturbing noises in the room
  • Reduction of reverberation time
  • Enhancement of concentration and efficiency
  • Optimal conditions for learning and material retention
  • Cleaner air with reduced harmful emissions

In classrooms and daycare rooms, high noise levels can quickly become a disruptive factor. Teachers often find themselves having to speak twice as loudly to maintain the attention of children.

In a well-designed acoustic environment, concentration improves, leading to positive outcomes in the learning process.

Factors for Good Acoustics

When verbal communication is fundamental to the purpose of a space, the key factors critical to good acoustics are:

Reverberation Time

Reverberation time is one of the most important characteristics for evaluating whether a room meets acoustic requirements. In spaces with long reverberation times, speech intelligibility decreases. Therefore, the appropriate reverberation time is determined based on the volume of the room.

Structure of the Sound Field

The sound field in a classroom should be diffuse (scattered), while disruptive multiple reflections of sound waves should be minimal. These requirements are achieved using specialized wall and ceiling systems. Ceilings with both sound-absorbing and reflective zones provide the best results.

Reflection of Sound Waves

For optimal communication over medium and long distances at a normal speaking volume, direct sound transmission from the speaker to the listener is necessary. Primary reflection (R) has a beneficial effect on speech clarity by enhancing the effect of the direct sound wave (D). Cleaneo® Akustik panels are specially perforated, making them a permanently effective filter. They require no electricity and function flawlessly throughout their entire lifespan. Thus, air quality control can be accessible to everyone. Thanks to the zeolite core, Cleaneo® Akustik is a patented panel without parallel, meeting the challenges of the modern era for a clean living environment.

Other Applications of Cleaneo® Akustik Panels:

  • Healthcare facilities
  • Hotels, gaming halls, bars, restaurants, discos
  • Offices, shopping centers, institutions
  • Bus and train stations
  • Other public buildings
  • Private residences, houses, and apartments
