"Platnarov's house" was designed by arch. Nikola Lazarov in the 1920s as a suburban villa for the cloth merchant Platnarov. Knauf bought the house in 1998 and reconstructed it in accordance with the requirements of the NICP for protection and as a cultural monument.
Knauf Bulgaria Ltd. was established in 1993 as a 100% subsidiary of the Austrian Knauf GmbH and with its dry construction systems has become a household name for products such as gypsum board and gypsum fiberboard. Knauf Bulgaria Ldt. is a workplace for almost 200 employees, most of whom are in the factories in Vidin and Mednikarovo. The administrative office in Bulgaria is located in Sofia.
In 2007 the first sod of the plant for gypsum building boards Maritsa was made. The test production was started at the end of 2009, and since 2010 the plant has been operating with a production capacity of 30 million square meters per year. The latest investments of the parent company are in high-tech installations for the production of metal profiles "Knauf Richter" and perforated gypsum boards "Cleaneo® Akustik" for cleaner air and beautiful design.

Located in a triangle between three countries (Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania), directly on the banks of the Danube, the gypsum fiberboard plant in Vidin is one of the largest employers in the region. In the town of Vidin, about 4 million square meters of gypsum fiberboard are produced annually with application for dry floors and walls. The largest customers are the industry for prefabricated wooden and prefabricated houses in Austria, Switzerland and Italy, and 90% of the production is exported to these countries.
